April 2025 -- J2 is pleased to announce that Alfred "Fred" Faryar, PE, LEED AP+, has joined the firm as a Senior Associate and Director of Transportation for the Herndon office.
Faryar brings 27 years of experience in transportation, infrastructure, and site development, successfully leading large-scale projects across transit, roadway, aviation, and utilities.

His expertise in coordinating complex infrastructure improvements has earned him a reputation as a trusted leader among government agencies, private developers, and contractors.
He has played a key role in major transportation initiatives for WMATA, the Maryland Transit Administration, the DC Department of Transportation, and Fairfax County DOT. His leadership on projects such as the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project (Silver Line), Purple Line Light Rail, WMATA Flood Mitigation Program, BRAC improvements at Fort Belvoir, and the Benning Road DC Streetcar Barn Training Center demonstrates his ability to manage high-profile, high-impact developments.
With the recent departure of Bruce Barnett, Faryar will lead the firm’s Herndon transportation division and play a pivotal role in the strategic diversification of J2’s transportation services. His role reflects J2’s commitment to strengthening its transportation practice and positioning the firm for continued growth.
“Fred’s presence and leadership will not only strengthen our transportation practice but also help mentor and develop the next generation of engineers at J2,” said Bob Brown, President of J2. “His dedication to integrity and strong values, combined with his ability to manage complex projects and foster lasting client relationships, aligns well with J2’s commitment to excellence. We look forward to the impact he will make as we continue to grow our transportation practice.”
A proud George Mason University alumnus, Faryar earned his Master of Science in Civil Engineering. He is committed to advancing J2’s transportation division through strategic growth, talent development, and expanded client partnerships. His leadership focuses on broadening J2’s transportation portfolio, strengthening client relationships, and mentoring the next generation of engineering talent. With a deep understanding of both the technical and strategic aspects of transportation infrastructure, he aims to position J2 as a premier firm for public- and private-sector transportation projects.
“I was drawn to J2’s people-first culture and forward-thinking approach,” said Faryar. “I look forward to strengthening the transportation team, mentoring emerging engineers, and taking on projects that elevate the firm’s impact in the industry.”
Please join us in welcoming Fred to the team at J2!
